The show started with a brief recap of the past five seasons, showing some of the favorite dances as well as a synopsis of the winners for each season. Then, as usual, they showed various highlights for the upcoming auditions.

This was the start of the sixth season, and we started off with auditions in LA. The guest judge for this audition was Adam Shankman. We also learned that Anya and Pasha from Season 3 will be instructing the choreography when the judges want to see what else the contestants can do.

As always, there were some amazing performances, and some that were truly bizarre. Of course, there were heartfelt stories to go along with several of the performers. The most wonderful surprise of the night was a tap battle, or trading, between Bianca and Ryan, both of whom made it to Vegas last season. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, and it left Adam Shankman speechless. Even with how great it was, I would have loved to see Bianca take Nigel up on his challenge at a battle. It was also freaking hilarious watching the judges chair-dance to “All That Jazz”. And that was all just on Day 1.

The second day produced more beautiful routines, particularly the female dancers. The final audition of the afternoon was Ryan's roommate from a tour of Fosse. Yes, we got to see yet another amazing tap dancer perform, which I absolutely love. There's nothing else in the world like great tapping.
