Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter

View Date: 8/13/09

This DVD contained two short films. One was based on the comic within the graphic novel of Watchmen, Tales of the Black Freighter. The other was based on Hollis Mason's autobiography featured in the book.

I understand why these segments could not be included in the main film. They would have added an extra hour of footage, and the comic isn't really essential to the story. The movie did help me understand the place in the story for the pirate story, but it still wasn't my favorite part. The autobiography section would have been very helpful for those who had not read the book. It gave a good background of the original group of Watchmen, and basically explained who they were and why they did what they were doing. If they had been able to work even parts of this into the main movie, it would have made for a more enjoyable viewing experience for those who were not already fans.

10 words or less: Some parts would have really added to the main movie.
