The Final Season

View Date: 9/7/09

This was a very interesting movie based on a true story about a small town high school baseball team who is a perennial state champion. However, nothing can ever be as simple as that and be made into a movie. Several power players are forcing the high school of this team to merge with another. Based on the stories of other schools that have been merged, the traditions of the small school are always lost and the towns suffer.

The coach of the baseball team is forced into retirement to try to ease the way into the merger. A young former assistant of the beloved coach is hired as his replacement because no one believes that the team will win with him in charge. The small town fights tooth and nail to prevent the merger, and the baseball team strives to win even without local support at the beginning of the season.

I really enjoyed this movie. Of course, this is a very typical movie that I enjoy, namely inspiring sports movies based on real life that also tell you the ultimate outcome of the participants after the movie. There were some great actors involved, including a longtime favorite Sean Astin. I highly recommend this movie for a great sports movie, a great inspiring movie, and a great movie all around.

10 words or less: A great and inspiring small town sports movie.
