Something is Killing Tate

View Date: 10/17/09

This independent movie is about a man who survives a suicide attempt. It jumps back and forth between the present with visits of his loved ones and the past which continued to haunt him. It was filmed primarily in black and white, with bits of color thrown in. This filming scheme was particularly true in the flashbacks. He truly was haunted by his past, and for good reason. A friend who reveals he knows more about Tate's condition that originally known, helps him face his past and correct it as much as possible.

This movie not only struck a nerve but also made me really feel for the character of Tate. He was so miserable throughout the film, and his flashbacks were routinely cut short before you found out the traumatic portion. Then, in one flashback, I though I finally understood some of his reasons for his current troubles, but it turns out that it was only partially the cause. The end provided a twist that I was not expecting. It was a very moving movie, with a very memorable ending.

10 words or less: I will remember this movie for a long time.
