Top Chef

View Date: 10/7/09

Quickfire Challenge: Tonight's quickfire was a high stakes quickfire, but the stakes were not identified until after the challenge. The guest judge tonight was Tyler Florence, and the chefs had to base a dish on three words as provided by a slot machine. I believe the words were a color, a flavor, and a region. Kevin won this challenge, and it was revealed that he could either choose $15000 or immunity in the elimination challenge, of which he chose the money. Jennifer had a bit of a bad challenge, which may have partly been because she was sick.

Elimination Challenge: The chefs all head home, and find out that they will be hosting a dinner party for a group of famous chefs and the judges. The famous chefs each had a bag of ingredients, which the contestants would have to use to create, in pairs, a single family-style dish. Additionally, they were to be cooking for only 3 hours in their residence. The pairs include Michael V./Ash, Robin/Mike I., Jennifer/Kevin, Eli/Ashley, and Bryan/Laurine.

The preferred dishes of the evening were Bryan and Laurine's halibut dish, as well as Kevin and Jennifer's beef dish. Kevin and Jennifer's dish won, and Jennifer's tomato gravy earned her the win. Michael V., Ashley, Eli, and Ash were called in for the least favorite dishes for the evening. Ashley was sent home for some very salty gnocchi and some undercooked prawns.

10 words or less: Way too close for Michael V. tonight.
