The Illusionist

View Date: 6/30/09

The Illusionist is a movie starring Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, and Paul Giamatti. It is about a young boy who becomes friends with a noble girl, and they are torn apart due to the class system throughout Europe during the 19th century. The boy grows to be a magician and illusionist, and meets up with the now grown girl upon returning to his hometown.

There is a corrupt crown prince and a rwluctantly loyal police chief who is afraid of losing his job. A crime occurs, and the police chief has to decide whether to cave to the crown prince's demands or actually follow the evidence.

Now remember, this film is titled The Illusionist. Appropriately, there is some great magic throught the movie. There are also some very surprising twists at the end, which is also appropriate based on the name.

I generally really enjoyed this movie. I was really quite perturbed by the really bad accents throughout, and they kind of distracted me. Other than that, the ending really caught me by surprise, and that's pretty hard to do these days. I was very pleasantly surprised with how good this movie actually was, because I was quite reluctant to see it.

10 words or less: Good movie with a surprise twist ending.
