Music and Lyrics

View Date: 7/10/09

This movie stars Hugh Grant as a washed-up former pop star. He is currently accepting any job that crosses his path, including writing a new song for the current pop princess. He is very talented as a musician, but has no real skill at writing lyrics.

Drew Barrymore plays a former writer who comes in to water his plants while he is working with a professional lyricist. While she is goung around his apartment watering the plants, she starts singing with the music he is playing. Of course, her version is much better than the lyricist's, so he gets fired and she gets hired. She, of course, has a past which makes her run away at inappropriate times, but they do wind up securing the song deal with the singer.

This is a typical romantic comedy with the usual happy ending. Hugh Grant is his usual adorable self, and Drew Barrymore reminds me of her character in The Wedding Singer, one of my favorites. The chemistry seems to work alright between the two. It is a very typical rom-com, but it's not bad if you're looking for that kind of movie.

10 words or less: A light, fun rom-com with a sappy ending.
